Streamer Dr Disrespect Inks Publishing Deal for In-Character Memoir (Exclusive)

Call it a meta-moir: Guy Beahm of Twitch streaming fame will be stepping into the role of his mega-popular character Dr. Disrespect to tell the character’s backstory as only “he” can. The comedic memoir, due out in spring 2021, will be hitting shelves under Gallery Books, a Simon & Schuster imprint.

With a working title based on the character’s exhaustive catchphrase, the story will dive into new and never-revealed “history” of the Doc himself, including “what it’s like being the greatest gamer in the history of the universe, and possibly the best overall human being.”

Similar to the Ron Burgundy character memoir penned by actor Will Ferrell in 2013, Let Me Off at the Top!: My Classy Life and Other Musings, Beahm/Disrepect’s new book will be a unique layered approach – personality-as-character-as-author in both tone and content. In addition to the physical book release, fans can also look forward to an audiobook version, releasing under Simon and Schuster’s audio division, which will be read by Beahm himself.

Gallery Books’ vice president and executive author Jeremie Ruby-Strauss secured distribution rights for North America and the open market from CAA, which acts as Beahm’s managing agency alongside

With more than 4 million followers on Amazon’s Twitch streaming platform, Beahm, known for his frequent first-person shooting game streams, has a robust following ready to delve into the backstory of his flamboyant alter-ego. Doctor Disrespect, making waves of his own with a brash demeanor, signature combat vest, and a moustache that can only be described as “unique,” didn’t hesitate to hype the forthcoming book: “Take a look, baby — I’m on top of the mountain, and I’m only halfway up!”

Beahm is using his book to stretch his proverbial wings beyond the world of streaming – and it’s only his latest foray beyond Twitch screen. In December 2019, he also inked a deal with Skybound Entertainment to hash out a scripted television series about Dr. Disrespect. Poised to become a modern day “triple threat,” Beahm is building on the successful methods of other Twitch streamers, such as Ninja – known in real life as Tyler Blevins – who had previously entered into a Random House deal to produce both books and graphic novels.
